A ramp agent app built for the apron
Nobody on the apron has time to read a dashboard. Hands are full, gloves are thick, the sun washes out the screen, engines drown out voices. Instructions come by word of mouth, and reporting happens on paper or after the fact, if at all.
Turnpilot’s ramp app starts from those constraints. It is a ramp agent app for ramp, baggage and gate staff that shows one thing only: the job to do now. The flight, the stand, the task, the time available. Nothing else.
One task at a time
Agents never see the station’s full task queue. They see theirs, full screen. When a decision is made in the control room — reassigning a unit, sending an agent to the baggage hall, preparing an offload — the task reaches the right person’s device with a vibrating and audible alert.
Three gestures are enough to respond:
- Done — the task is complete; the time is recorded.
- Problem — the agent picks a cause from a short list, no typing.
- Photo — when a picture says more than an explanation.
Every response goes back to the supervisor and into the flight timeline. What the ramp does becomes visible without any extra reporting.
Built for gloves, sun and noise
The app’s ergonomics are set by the apron:
- Large touch targets, usable with work gloves.
- High contrast, readable in direct sunlight, and a dark mode for night banks.
- Haptic feedback, because you can’t hear anything next to an engine.
- No fine interaction: no drag and drop, no tiny menus, no typing when a button will do.
It works even with no network
Apron Wi-Fi is rarely there when you need it. The app keeps working with no network for a whole bank: agents see their tasks, complete them, flag problems. Every action is recorded with its real time and sent automatically as soon as the connection is back. No action is blocked by a missing network, and no timestamp is lost from the chain of evidence.
Pictograms and multiple languages
Ramp teams are often multilingual. Tasks are shown with pictograms and in the agent’s language, using the IGOM vocabulary the teams already know. An instruction is understood at a glance, without ambiguity, whatever the recipient’s first language.
On the devices your teams already carry
No new hardware to buy or carry. The app runs on the rugged smartphones and tablets already deployed on the station for existing tools. It adds to the systems in place without replacing them.
No double entry
The app only asks for what existing systems don’t already know. Anything already recorded elsewhere is never typed in again. Every remaining input is a single gesture: a button, a scan, a photo.
For every job on the station
- Ramp agents and equipment drivers — the flight and stand assignment, the next task, no radio call needed. The supervisor sees the equipment on the apron map.
- Baggage agents — their carts and flights, and the urgent task when a cart goes missing. The detailed count is in the baggage and holds module.
- Gate agents — boarding status and the passengers still expected, to make the call in time.
- Load controllers — the position of a bag to offload, without searching the hold.
The ramp app relays every decision made in Turnpilot to the ramp. It sits at the centre of what Turnpilot offers ground handlers.
